Hi acupuncture superheroes!
Today’s post is shorter than usual but also WAY more powerful than usual.
I can say that about my own writing, right?
Well, okay, I’ll let you decide. ????
Here’s the thing. If you’re here on my website, there’s a good chance that you don’t like marketing your acupuncture practice.
And I get it.
I get feedback all the time from acupuncturists all over the world that they:
A) Had little or no marketing education in acupuncture school
B) Dislike marketing because it makes them feel slimy
and/or
C) Feel so overwhelmed by the idea of marketing their practices that they don’t know where to start.
So today I want to share with you the ONE THING that has made the biggest difference for me, and many of the acupuncturists that I teach, to help you embrace marketing and resolve the above issues.
Yes, one thing to help shift the way you feel about marketing so that it no longer feels sleazy, pushy, or salesy.
To ground you when you feel overwhelmed.
To give you a starting point if you had no marketing education in acupuncture school.
Tell me already, woman! <Is that what you’re saying?>
Here it is:
Marketing is simply letting the people who need you, know that you exist.
This is honestly one of the most profound concepts that I have ever been taught about marketing (from both of my mentors Deb and Andrea).
It’s so important that it’s one of the cornerstones of my online course, where I teach acupuncturists to demystify marketing their practices. I repeat it again and again in my course because it can’t be underestimated.
But why? Why is it so essential that I always begin with this simple statement whenever I have the opportunity to teach people about marketing?
Let’s dig in a little deeper.
Marketing is simply letting the people who need you, know that you exist.
This means that you’re educating people. Whether they realize it or not, you’re teaching them two fundamental things with every marketing approach:
- That acupuncture can help them.
- That your practice exists in their community.
When you approach marketing your acupuncture practice from this perspective, it’s nearly impossible to come across as sleazy or pushy.
You’re simply providing information and options for their healthcare. What they do with that information is up to them.
Often in our marketing, we feel like we’re being pushy or salesy. This translates to the idea that we are forcing information on people that they don’t want or need.
But when you think about your marketing through the lens that you are only letting the people who need you know that you exist, you aren’t being pushy. You’re only sharing information. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Now, not every person will be ready for the information you have to share; not every person who hears your message will be ready to be your patient.
But that’s okay. That’s normal. Marketing does not have a 100% conversion rate!
And if you reach just a few people with each marketing effort, isn’t that enormously better than the zero patients you’ll reach if you avoid marketing altogether?
So you’re not being pushy. You’re not being salesy. You’re just sharing knowledge that can benefit people’s lives.
Think of it this way:
There are people in your community who would benefit HUGELY from acupuncture.
But they cannot possibly benefit if they never learn that A) acupuncture might be able to transform their lives and B) your practice is around the corner, waiting to help them.
All you’re doing with marketing is putting a message out into the world that you can help them.
If you don’t market, there is a very good chance that most of these people will never understand that acupuncture could have changed their lives and that you could have been the acupuncturist to help them do it.
In a nutshell, if you do not market, then many, many people will miss out on the powerful, life-changing service that you provide.
You know that acupuncture works. You know that it has the capacity to change the way people live and how they move through the world, because you’ve experienced those changes firsthand in your patients.
But if you don’t engage in marketing, you will never reach even half of those people. Many of them will never know what acupuncture could have done for them.
The pain it could have eliminated. The anxiety it could have reduced. The babies it could have helped conceive.
So when you’re marketing and those negative feelings of doubt and worry creep in, simply think of it in this powerful way:
That there are people in your community who need you, but it is unlikely that most of THEM will find YOU. YOU have to be brave and reach out to find THEM.
And so I ask you to be brave, and to market and put your message out into the world for the sake of your future patients and your capacity to change their lives.
This is what I teach in the first two lessons of my step-by-step online course.
