Today we’re talking Instagram – fourteen of my favorite acupuncturist Instagram accounts to learn from.

Hi acupuncture friends!

Before we dive in, a quick update on my online courses:

Welcome to all my amazing new students! We’re at well over 100 students and it’s amazing to have you on board. I’m already so impressed with your dedication and readiness to get good at marketing so you can find more patients.

A big shout out to one of the two scholarship winners, Chelsey in NYC. Here she is wearing her brand-spanking new Acupuncture World Domination t-shirt:

If you missed the June enrollment, not to worry. I’ll be opening it up again for new students in late November.

Okay. So let’s talk about your social media marketing. Specifically, let’s talk Instagram.

Instagram is my favorite social media platform, by far.

Students in my online course know that I recommend only committing to two social media platforms so that you don’t get swamped by trying to manage too many accounts. If you have too many social media accounts that you’re trying to keep alive and buzzing, the result is usually burnout. It becomes too much to manage and people end up abandoning a bunch (if not all) of them.

This is no bueno because abandoned social media accounts imply that your business, too, is abandoned. 😭

I know that logically, this is a crazy leap for people to take. But social media is all about appearances (unfortunately), so you want your social media to give the appearance that your business is busy, successful, and ACTIVE.

That’s why I recommend just picking a few places to focus your energy. Like Facebook and Instagram, for instance.

By the way, just because social media is all about appearances doesn’t mean you have to be fake. (Thank God.) On the contrary, I encourage you to be as real as possible on your social media. Strike a balance between letting your audience get to know you and retaining the amount of privacy that feels right for you.

Some people are happy putting it all out there, and others are more comfortable with little peeks into their lives. Whatever works for you is fine, as long as you’re making the effort to let your followers know who you are and what you’re all about.

Keep in mind that the purpose of social media is to help you build that know-like-trust factor.

Again, this is something I teach in my courses and it’s so important: people like to buy things from people they know, like, and trust. It’s that simple.

Choose the kinds of social media that you enjoy spending time on. It’s not just enough to POST on social media. You also want to be there pretty regularly to INTERACT with your audience.

Instagram has long been one of my favorite social media platforms because it’s visually stunning. I love words and writing, but sometimes I just want to enjoy some beautiful imagery and be inspired by how other people live their lives. I like having that peek into their daily routine and their world. It makes me feel like I know them.

A few important tips for success on Instagram:

  • Post only attractive images. Do not post ugly images. Yes, I know it’s annoying; it feels very superficial. But the prettier your Instagram feed, the more likes and followers (and exposure to your desired audience) you’ll get. Remember, this is about spreading your message. Using beautiful images that match your branding helps your message reach more people. More reach for your message = more patients.
  • Maintain a cohesive look in your Instagram feed. In other words, pick a “theme” or a color profile that matches your branding (for example, pale peach tones and cream, or light blues with gray) and stick with it. To see an example, check out my Instagram account: @michellegrasek. I focus on posting images with green, pink and lots of white space to match my branding and maintain a unified look.
  • Repost beautiful images from others. If you feel like you can’t take “fancy” photos at home or in your clinic, don’t panic. It’s not a problem! Just repost lovely images from someone else. (Ahem, such as the Instagrammers below!) Give them credit and then write a caption that has to do with your clinic, your specialty, your message, or whatever you want to share that day. I use Repost app to curate and repost images for free.
  • Post regularly. Every 2-3 days is fine, but once per day is ideal. Yes, I know that’s a lot. But you want your followers to get used to seeing your posts and to look forward to them. That simply doesn’t happen if you only post sporadically and they forget all about you. I use Hootsuite to schedule my Instagram posts in advance, and it automatically publishes them for me.
  • Engage with your followers. Because I enjoy Instagram so much it’s a great place to find me. I’m always answering comments, commenting (genuinely) on the posts of others, and dishing out as many “likes” as I can. You’ve got to get real with your followers – interact with them so they get to know and appreciate you!

Okay, finally! Enough talking from me. Here they are:
